Web site complexity has increased a lot over the past couple of years. In fact, many sites are now just as complex as traditional software applications. As more features are added to a site, workflow and logical navigation become more important than ever. Fortunately, there’s a cool way for you to design your site’s workflow as well as provide clients with a way to offer feedback on workflow and design patterns. It’s called SketchFlow, and it’s a new feature in Expression Blend 3.
Most people who are familiar with Expression Blend consider it a tool for Silverlight or WPF design and development. While that’s true, version 3’s introduction of the SketchFlow feature makes it extremely suitable to developing a prototype for all kinds of applications, including Web sites. Using SketchFlow, you can create mockups of pages (called screens in Expression Blend) and easily define the workflow of your site without writing any code. The result is a Silverlight version of your site that clients can interact with. Your clients (or you) can then enter feedback on any part of the site right within the browser interface. That feedback can then be imported into Blend where it will appear in your SketchFlow project.
