61 products in all, spearheaded by e-mail, social networking

Cisco fortified its collaboration portfolio on a massive scale this week, unveiling 61 products in all including hosted enterprise e-mail and a social networking application. Colleague Matt Hamblen at Computerworld has the full story here.

The e-mail product, called WebEx Mail, is built on technology Cisco obtained from its acquisition of PostPath. It will allow each user a 25GB mailbox, interoperate with Microsoft Outlook and support mobile devices, Hamblen reports.

WebEx Mail will interoperate with Microsoft Outlook and support mobile devices. It will also allow Cisco to compete in cloud-based e-mail services with Microsoft.

The enterprise social software application, called Enterprise Collaboration Platform, will accommodate real-time voice, instant messaging and video communications as well as documents; and a new video product, called Cisco Show and Share, allows enterprises to record, edit and share video with the ability to add tags and comments, and upload speech-to-text transcripts for video searches, Hamblen reports.
