End-Users “Shop” for Applications with Citrix Dazzle

What's amazing about Dazzle

Citrix just released the GA of Dazzle and new versions of Citrix Receiver for Windows, Mac, iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android.

What’s Dazzle? Citrix Dazzle is a storefront for applications, desktops, and end-user self service.

Maintaining, managing, and securing the endpoint is a major headache and expense that is about to experience a significant shift. The days of provisioning laptops and desktops for individual users and then having to deal with the support, risk of data leakage, and unproductive users has to improve. Application and desktop virtualization solutions from Citrix, Microsoft, Symantec, and VMware have improved to the point where businesses can begin to target a subsegment of the workforce with plans to transform the entire population over time.

Remember: Desktop virtualization is NOT a synonym for VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure). VDI is one many models/methods of deployment,  not the only one. Desktop virtualization encompasses application virtualization, streamed desktops, profile management, VDI, client side hypervisors, and common management constructs.

Citrix is laying out a nice vision and strategic direction for business to consider as it looks at Windows 7 and transforms its endpoint strategy. The thinking behind Citrix Dazzle is worth exploring as companies look at POC and hone in on matching desktop virtualization technology with the workforce.
