Easing adoption of cloud computing

Regional healthcare provider Molina Healthcare is using masking software from privately held Dataguise to meet Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance. Dataguise dgmasker and dgdiscover software automatically discovers and masks protected health information (PHI) in enterprise databases.

Nemertes Research participants identify HIPAA and other privacy requirements such as the Payment Card Industry Digital Security Standard (PCI-DSS) as the most onerous to comply with. This concern is a factor in low adoption of cloud computing (Infrastructure as a Service and Platform as a Service). Masking of personally identifiable information (PII) and PHI is a compliance best practice that can help ease adoption of cloud computing.
