Good piece in Boston Globe on how easy access to so much online research and many research journals has affected research itself. Kinda gets at some of the ideas of the “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” debate.
A study finds that people are reading lots more research these days because it is available online. The trouble is that they tend to read a lot of the same stuff, meaning researchers aren’t referencing harder to find sources and as a result might be limiting their own findings.
I, for one, love being able to plow through the papers being presented at events run by ACM and other organizations. OK, well plowing through the executive summaries and conclusions of these papers…
