Rice University this week is calling attention to its WARP system (seen above) that is used by academic and corporate researchers to test new wireless technologies and configurations.
Rice started working on the NSF-funded platform in 2006 and it’s now being used at places such as MIT, NASA and Toyota. Motorola is said to be using it to test a wireless system for use in rural India. WARP is used by researchers who exploit its openness to work with multiple types of wireless routers, access points and radios.
Rice researchers and students are using WARP themselves to explore cognitive networking that involves better exploiting wireless spectrum through use of multiple wireless technologies. Others, such as Rutgers, are also deep into this sort of pervasive wireless computing technology.
