On Tuesday, Microsoft released its latest, greatest Microsoft Office Communications Server , the R2 version of OCS 2007 — and the Microsoft Subnet bloggers loved it.
Blogger Mitchell Ashley wants to know if the PBX is finally on its way out. He writes: “Two key features in Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2, released on Tuesday, now make it possible to replace a traditional PBX with OCS: SIP trunking and attendant console support.” Meanwhile blogger Alex Lewis says, “The feature I’m most excited about is Audio Conferencing. This is an area where Cisco and its MeetingPlace offering had a big leg up on Microsoft… not anymore. The Audio Conferencing in OCS 2007 R2 is a robust solution and based on my experience with it should meet the needs of most all companies, small and large.” And blogger Ken Buck adds that because Microsoft is making it easier to integrate OCS 2007 with existing Office apps, even SMB businesses can join the convergence crowd. Maybe it’s time to give OCS a test drive.
