Did Cisco win big AT&T router RFP?

Cisco may have bested Juniper in a big router win at AT&T. A bulletin from UBS this week, which was pounced upon by TheStreet.com, appears to lean that way.

The contract prompted UBS to downgrade Juniper stock to a Neutral rating. In its bulletin on the Juniper downgrade, UBS states:

our contacts suggest Juniper may have recently lost on a routing opportunity at AT&T vs. Cisco

Ouch. These deals are potentially worth $100 million-plus per year.

The UBS bulletin doesn’t say whether it was edge or core or both, but in a bulletin from Interop two weeks ago, UBS said Cisco was “aggressive” in its AT&T bid “to preserve position.” AT&T was always a huge Cisco customer as the former SBC, and Cisco recently succeeded Avici in the AT&T IP core.
