SQL Server
Since I started talking about licensing again in my previous blog, I thought I’d follow that up with some scenarios from the Microsoft web site. Of course, Microsoft supports multiple releases of SQL Server so the story may be different depending on the release you are under.

If you are running SQL Server 2008, there is an entire document devoted to scenarios involving licensing called the “SQL Server Licensing Guide” on this web page below. This guide not only sorts out licensing issues but also describes the various technologies and sample architectures with attractive, concise diagrams so actually is an enjoyable read (compared to your average license agreement!): https://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/licensing.aspx
