A report issued in September by the Urban Institute (The iPod: Lightning Rod for Criminals? ), a Washington, D.C. think tank, has had new life breathed into it this week after researcher took part in a panel discussion on it this week. Associated Press and others jumped on the story again this week. The report surmises that FBI figures showing a rise in violent crime might be linked to the emergence of the iPod, an increasingly popular target among robbers. Some are calling for Apple and other music device makers to install antitheft locks on the devices, something on which Apple hasn’t commented on.
