Adtran has entered the unified communications market with its recently introduced NetVanta Unified Communications Solution Suite, designed to accommodate from five to greater than 2,000 users per server. The UC Solution Suite features include voice mail, unified messaging, fax server and auto attendant. The suite establishes an entry point for Adtran to take on other competitors such as Avaya and Cisco for the mid-tier and enterprise market.

Adtran, which offers a broad range of products for both carriers and the enterprise, first entered the VoIP market in 2006 with its NetVanta IP-PBX targeted to the small/midsize business market. The company has since been evolving its portfolio with increased features and scalability, including May 2009 upgrades to its NetVanta 7100 and 7060 IP PBXs that doubled scalability and improved configuration options with SIP trunking.

The UC Solution Suite includes:

* NetVanta UC Server, which is a software-based UC application designed for customers with an existing PBX, “capable of supporting unified communications on one or more different types of PBXs from a variety of leading manufacturers,” according to Adtran. The application is designed for Microsoft Windows platforms and scales up to 2,000 or more users per server.

* NetVanta Business Communications System, which combines Adtran’s NetVanta 7000 Series IP-PBXs with the NetVanta UC Server for enhanced click-to-dial capabilities and an integrated conference server.

* NetVanta Enterprise Communications Server, a software-only solution offering a complete IP-based voice system for larger enterprises. Designed for use with Microsoft Windows and Active Directory, this SIP-based platform includes a soft IP-PBX.

* NetVanta Business Application Server, which provides a graphical drag-and-drop service creation environment so IT staffs can create tailored communications services

Commenting on the UC portfolio launch in a statement, Tim Saunders, vice president of product management at Adtran Enterprise Networks Division, said, “Adtran’s NetVanta UC solutions are flexible and customizable to address the specific needs of each business. These solutions allow businesses, regardless of size, to streamline business operations, improve communications, increase productivity and reduce costs.”
