XO Communications has enhanced its VoIP service with expanded nationwide coverage, upgraded business continuity features, and interoperability support for a wider range IP-PBX Platforms using Session Initiation Protocol. XO effectively doubles its footprint across the United States, now providing VoIP services to 80% major metropolitan markets. The increase in VoIP service areas better positions the company to support multi-location businesses.
XO Communications has enhanced its VoIP service with expanded nationwide coverage, upgraded business continuity features, and interoperability support for a wider range IP-PBX platforms using Session Initiation Protocol. XO effectively doubles its footprint across the United States, now providing VoIP services to 80% major metropolitan markets. The increase in VoIP service areas better positions the company to support multi-location businesses.
The VoIP expansion follows greater domestic and international MPLS network coverage XO announced earlier this month through a series of domestic and international partner agreements. In the MPLS announcement, XO disclosed it planned to add more network coverage and it was exploring other strategic partnerships and opportunities.
XO expands Ethernet footprint
Improving its business continuity features, XO has also added automatic call routing for VoIP customers. The new routing feature can be used to send incoming calls to an alternate landline or mobile phone in case of an unplanned event. The incoming call-routing feature adds to outbound business continuity options provided by XO Connect, a mass notification service that can deliver urgent communications to thousands of recipients simultaneously via telephone, text message or e-mail.
The company has also added SIP interoperability support for four IP-PBX platforms in the past year. Vendors supported Avaya, Cisco, Digium, Fonality, NEC, Sutus and Toshiba; a complete list of individual equipment supported is available from XO.
Commenting on the upgrades in a statement, Vince Margiotta, vice president of product marketing at XO Communications, said, “With a growing number of multi-location enterprises deploying XO’s converged voice and data solutions, we knew that enhancing our nationwide VoIP services was critical to providing even more capabilities to make our customers’ networks simpler and easier to manage.” XO provides VoIP to more than 680,000 users at 16,000 businesses nationwide.
