IntelePeer launches developer program; VBrick unveils integrated hardware and software system
Following up on separate stories from earlier this year, we checked in recently with IntelePeer and VBrick for updates on their progress in 2009. IntelePeer recently launched a developer program to enable cloud-based applications with voice and communications features. And VBrick has unveiled the VBrick Enterprise Media System (VEMS), an integrated hardware and software system designed to distribute live or on-demand video and presentations for global enterprises.
We spoke with Charles Studt, vice president for product management at IntelePeer who told us business has been good for his company with network traffic and associated revenues nearly doubling so far in 2009. Studt told us that IntelePeer’s new AppworX Open Communications Platform was launched to make it easy for developers to create and deploy deeply integrated features such as voice calling and text messaging with other applications and workflows in the enterprise and on the Web.
Citing examples of how this program can help midsize enterprises become more responsive “immediately”, he suggested that implementing a feature for a medical office that can quickly and automatically fill a cancelled appointment could be one business process enabled by a third-party developer. In another example, he cited a case in which a temporary staffing agency could use the technology to quickly match qualified applicants with open positions.
According to IntelePeer, developers that register gain access to a “developer forum, SDK tools, application programming interface (API) documentation, example applications, a PHP code library and direct access to the IntelePeer global peering network. Developer program participants also gain up to 500 free voice minutes for testing new voice applications.”
In separate news, VBrick has improved its video content management and distribution with VEMS, which provides bandwidth optimization by routing users’ sessions to the best location to receive real time or on-demand video content and presentation materials. The system can scale to tens of thousands of concurrent users across an enterprise. Vodafone, an early user of the system, commented in a statement from Dr. Armin Hessler, head of customer and IT service operations: “Only VBrick could offer an end-to-end solution to enable our teams to use high-impact IP video streaming to more effectively communicate across a vast network of 79,000 employees and offices in 27 countries on five continents.”
