Uganda is set to host the fourth edition of IST-Africa on May 4 to May 6, 2009, through the country’s Ministry of ICT and with support from the European Commission.

IST-Africa (Regional Impact of Information Society Technologies in Africa) is an annual conference that brings together senior representatives from leading commercial, government and research organizations in Africa and Europe to bridge the digital divide through knowledge sharing and policy discussion.

The conference also serves to identify opportunities for international ICT research collaboration between African and European organizations.

According to the organizers, IST-Africa 2009 will focus on applied ICT research topics addressing major societal and economic challenges. The program will combine strategic keynote presentations, technical and policy papers, case studies, workshops, an exhibition and social activities.
