Telkom Kenya, through its Orange mobile brand, has embarked on a campaign to promote responsible youth culture by sponsoring a university beauty pageant.

The United States International University (USIU) beauty pageant is part of a venture planned by Telkom Kenya to engage and support young people, a major segment of the company’s customer base, said Njeri Rionge, Telkom Kenya’s head of marketing, mass markets and customer care.

“Our initiative today is a celebration of young people, which allows us to recognize their achievements as individuals,” she said. “We are proud to sponsor these young people through Orange as they come together to promote a culture of responsibility in our society at an important time in our country’s development.”

“USIU is grateful that Orange is willing to invest in young people and we are keen to develop the partnership,” added J. Kimote, the school’s director for institutional planning and development.

Rionge presented the school with a check for 1.1 million Kenyan shillings (US$15,006) as a contribution to this year’s project of constructing a kitchen for the Marurui primary school.
