Japanese LCD TV maker Sharp plans to launch a monstrous 108-inch LCD TV in the U.S. this year, after failing to fulfill a similar pledge made last year.
Sharp executives made the statements about the huge LCD TV, which is 52.9-inches tall and 93.9-inches wide, at a news conference ahead of the start of the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas Sunday. The set measures 107.8-inches in the diagonal.
The 108-inch LCD TV is among the largest in the world and will likely carry a heavy price tag. Sharp executives did not name a price, but there are other large screen TVs on the market. A 71-inch plasma display TV made by LG Electronics is on sale at SaleStore.com for US$25,248, while a 65-inch LCD TV from Sharp goes for $5,465 on Buy.com.
Sharp unveiled the 108-inch LCD TV last year at CES, promising at the time that it would be available to consumers in the second half of 2007. The huge flat screen TV still hasn’t made it to market.
