Combined company to focus on Web application security
Security appliance maker Barracuda buys NetContinuum, looking to bolster Web application protection.
Barracuda Networks, maker of Web and e-mail security appliances, on Monday announced the completed acquisition of Web firewall company NetContinuum.
Barracuda, a privately held company, did not disclose the purchase price. The majority of NetContinuum’s 75 employees are staying on with Barracuda, officials say, and NetContinuum’s products will be sold under the Barracuda brand while new technology surrounding those products will continue to be developed.
NetContinuum makes application delivery controllers that add security to Web applications, traffic management and SSL acceleration. Barracuda develops e-mail, Web and instant-messaging security appliances as well as application-server load balancing appliances.
According to Barracuda officials, many Web application firewalls on the market have major security issues, which will likely be an area of product development focus going forward.
“Barracuda Networks is already building upon the existing NetContinuum products and we plan to increase investment in product development in the Web Application Firewall product category,” officials said in a statement.
