* Agito says its Mobility Router will be out by the end of the year
We spend a great deal of time in this newsletter discussing identity in the enterprise as well as the user-centric identity that’s used for personal Web-based access. Sometimes the two even overlap, as they did in the last issue. But there’s another area which – while it can involve both the enterprise as well as the individual user – is, nevertheless, a completely different platform and paradigm. That’s the identity associated with the mobile networking arena. I met last week with a start-up that’s addressing identity in that space, something that’s been overlooked by the major players for far too long.
Agito Networks is just a tad over a year-old, but Founder and Marketing VP Pejman Roshan is convinced that Agito will have the first version of its Mobility Router out the door by the end of this year. With just a couple of weeks to go, he may know whereof he speaks!
The mobility router is a hardware/software appliance that connects to your PBX and allows “dual radio” cell phones (those with both cellular and Wi-Fi hardware inside running either Windows Mobile or the Symbian operating system) to act as part of your telephone network. Calls to your desktop can route to the mobile phone, calls from the mobile phone can be routed (via VoIP) over your wireless network. There’s nothing revolutionary about that, of course. Cell phones with “mobile extensions” technology can become extensions on your corporate network. But they can’t function as such beyond your firewall – and Agito-enabled phones can.
More important, at least to this newsletter, is that they’re fully Active Directory aware: the phones can be provisioned from AD, can have their address books populated from AD and can even be set up for self-service provisioning. Of course, they can also be controlled by your deprovisioning mechanisms to render them non-operational when an employee leaves.
Roshan has lots of plans for future versions, too. Things like using the phone for multi-factor authentication, for example. Location-aware services are also on the horizon.
