* AT&T to manage GM's local service providers globally
AT&T has nailed its biggest commercial contract with its five-year, nearly $1 billion deal with General Motors that expands an existing relationship between the two.
Under the pact, announced Wednesday, AT&T will continue to provide GM with global network services. AT&T is already providing GM with IP VPN services that run over the carrier’s global MPLS network. GM also is using local, long distance, voice mail, conferencing, Internet access and business-continuity services from AT&T.

In addition, AT&T will now manage local service provider resources for GM globally. AT&T will monitor network performance of GM’s other telecom suppliers to ensure consistent network performance and reliability.
AT&T also will help support GM’s 3G IT business model, which the carrier said in a statement “is designed to ensure that GM’s IT suppliers are working as one around the world.”
The carrier is expected to provide network-integration management for GM’s networking and voice communication systems.
