E-mail management provider Azaleos Wednesday unveiled upgrades to its managed server appliances for corporate users based on Microsoft’s Exchange Server 2007.
The new Azaleos lineup features the OneServer for High Reliability (HR), OneServer for High Availability (HA) and Azaleos BladeMail. The company also introduced the OneServer for Client Access (CA) to support Exchange 2007’s client access configuration.

OneServer is a dedicated appliance that provides an active/passive, fault tolerant and clustered Exchange platform for corporate messaging. Azaleos combines OneServer with its OneStop Subscription Service that includes round-the-clock remote monitoring. The platform also provides maintenance and management of the appliance from the hardware to patch management for all installed software including Windows, Exchange and third-party applications.
The company, founded on March 21, 2005, makes an upgrade to its product line each year on that date.
With its latest enhancements, Azaleos is addressing concerns among experts and analysts that upgrades to Exchange 2007 will be drawn out given new features and different roles the server can play within the Exchange environment. There are five different server roles for Exchange 2007: mailbox, client access, unified messaging, routing and hub transport, and edge transport.
Users also may have to refresh hardware as Exchange 2007 runs only on 64-bit platforms.
Azaleos’s alternative is its managed appliance.
The OneServer HR supports as many as 1,000 users, with an expansion option to increase the number of users to 6,000, with 1GB mailboxes. It also supports Exchange 2007’s Local Continuous Replication, a feature designed to aid in rapid recovery of corrupt mail stores. The appliance can integrate as many as six Serial Attached SCSI drives and can connect to iSCSI storage. The appliance, however, does not support clustering.
The OneServer HA combines two OneServer units in a cluster. It also supports Exchange’s Cluster Continuous Replication so users can maintain a copy of the Exchange store on two separate nodes or on iSCSI attached storage.
The BladeMail option supports as many as 14 blades and incorporates storage technology from Network Appliance. It uses Microsoft’s Boot From Storage Area Network (SAN) technology that allows Windows to be booted from a SAN using iSCSI technology and standard network interface cards.
OneServer CA combines Exchange 2007 configuration options for client access and hub transport to support routing, Outlook Web access and mobile devices.
In addition to the new OneServer offerings, Azaleos also has upgraded its ViewXchange monitoring tool, which reports on Exchange health, incoming/outgoing e-mail traffic message hygiene such as spam and virus activity, archiving, and mobility statistics.
“This is not just about Exchange anymore,” says Keith McCall, CTO of Azaleos. “We are expanding our ability to manage Exchange and the storage that Exchange relies on and the Active Directory infrastructure at the customer site.”
The OneServer HR and OneServer CA appliances, which are built with two drives, 8GB of RAM and 2xQuad Core Processors, start at $14,995. The OneServer HR appliance with six drives, 8GB RAM and 2xQuad Core Processors is $24,995. The four-blade BladeMail configuration with 8GB RAM and 2xQuad Core Processors on each blade is $84,995 and requires attachment to iSCSI storage. All the appliances support 1,000 1GB mailboxes.
OneServer also requires a subscription to Azaleos’s OneStop Managed Services, which include ViewXchange. The services start at $29,995 for the first 250 users.
