ASML Holding, one of the world’s largest makers of chip-production line machinery, will open a development and support center in Taiwan by the middle of 2008, the company said Wednesday.
The Dutch company, which makes lithography systems, decided to build the center in Taiwan because the Asia-Pacific region is its largest market. Nearly two-thirds of its sales last year were in the Asia Pacific, it said.
Actual operations will start before the new center opens. ASML is already recruiting personnel and has a found a temporary work site. The ASML Center of Excellence, as it’s called, will develop new technologies and applications, and provide support and repair work for customers in the region.
