* CyberDefenderFREE is released
Suppose you could protect yourself and your users from spyware, spam, viruses, Trojans and worms – and do it at no-cost. Further suppose you could get alerts about potential problems that could jeopardize your people’s Web experience; learn when a Windows update is available up to two days earlier than with Microsoft notification; find out if your Windows firewall is protecting you from external sources attempting to access your PC; see the number and type of cookies saved to your PCs; and identify passwords on your computers that are susceptible to theft from hackers, spyware, and other threats. And all this for free.
But wait, there’s more: How about we throw in a browser security toolbar that will prevent unsuspecting users from having their Internet searches hijacked and redirected to unauthorized phony Web pages used to “phish” for people’s personal information? Well, I’m not throwing it in, but CyberDefender is.
CyberDefender recently released version 2.0 of its CyberDefenderFREE product – the all-free Internet security suite. All free. This advertising-supported product contains six modules: earlySPY, earlyVIRUS, earlySPAM, earlySCAM, earlyMONITOR, and safeSEARCH. And, as the TV ads say, there’s nothing else to buy. If the advertising bothers you, though, you can pay to have it removed for less than $1 per month per user. And that’s the only difference between the free and the paid version – the included ads.
For small businesses, CyberDefenderFREE might be all the protection you need. But for larger sites, or those that already have implemented some protection, the suite will work with and compliment the utilities and services you’re already using.
But not only is CyberDefenderFREE less expensive than most protection suites, it’s generally faster. CyberDefenderFREE uses technology that can detect and protect against attacks much faster than existing signature-based systems, because it uses a collaborative system called the “earlyNetwork”. The more users in this network, the more powerful the protection becomes for everyone. All clients in earlyNetwork are sensing stations. CyberDefender’s Early Alert Center is largely automated, and updates are relayed using local user bandwidth, which means that they can be sent out continuously. Using local bandwidth also means that CyberDefender has nearly zero distribution costs. This is why the vendor is able to offer a free product without limitation.
