Description: The Freestyle Audio Fusion is a waterproof MP3 player catering to the extreme-sports crowd. Ideally, this MP3 player could be used for surfing, swimming, snowboarding and extreme bass fishing when even fishing becomes “extreme.”
The Freestyle Audio MP3 player has a built-in flash memory (128MB, 256MB or 512MB), which holds and plays about 80 songs or 160 songs in MP3 format, depending on the memory. Compatible with PC/Mac, it easily downloads MP3 files with USB interface and has a rechargeable battery with 40 hours of playtime per charge.
Why it’s a Toy of Summer: This is a great travel gadget with a multitude of uses. From use at the hotel shower to surfing the breaks off Costa Rica, the Fusion MP3 player loves to dive right in and get wet. I imagine it could also be a cool tool for travel, the earpluglike headphones seem well suited for your flight to Fiji. But even if you’re just lying in a pool float in the middle of your backyard, the Fusion lets you listen to music (or podcasts!) without bothering anyone else.
Quick Review: Finally, a waterproof (completely submergible up to 10 feet) MP3 player has been developed that can withstand its element. The lightweight plastic device can be slipped into an easy-fitting neoprene armband, which holds the player quite securely. The waterproof ear buds worked reasonably well, though like most ear buds, lacked a good bass groove. The earpluglike quality of the buds also takes a bit to getting used to, but their snug fit ensured they didn’t come out during any action-oriented maneuvers we tried. Its no-frills interface complements its ruggedness and was easy to use while shredding or whiling away the day in a hammock in the South Pacific.
