* Verizon Business signs new five-year contract with Johnson Controls
Verizon Business said it signed a new five-year, $100 million agreement with Johnson Controls to provide a range of global managed IP services.
The contract extends a nine-year relationship between the carrier and Johnson Controls, a provider of automotive interiors, building efficiency and power systems. Verizon Business will provide the company with Private IP, IP VPN, Internet and voice services, and expand Johnson Controls’ Private IP network in the Asia-Pacific region.
Verizon Business will also provide its Secure Gateway service to the company in the expanded footprint to enable secure employee communications across its global network. Secure Gateway deploys gateways and firewalls between Verizon Business traditional data, public IP and MPLS networks to let private IP, frame relay, ATM and IP VPN customers communicate securely as if they are on one network.
Among the service-level agreements, Verizon Business is contracted to provide Johnson Controls with a 3.5-hour time-to-repair commitment. Verizon Business also provides audio and video conferencing services to Johnson Controls’ 136,000 employees in more than 1,000 locations.
Separately, Verizon Business last week opened a facility in Ashburn, Va., that combines managed network and security services for federal government customers.
The carrier’s Government Network Operations and Security Center (GNOSC) is a 30,000 square foot, multimillion-dollar facility built to government security standards. In addition to managed network services, GNOSC will house managed security service operations for federal government civilian, intelligence and defense agencies that Verizon Business previously maintained in facilities in Rockville, Md.
The GNOSC will employ 300, including all that were working in the Rockville facility, Verizon Business says.
