Asiana Airlines has begun offering Internet access on several of its flights between Seoul and other Asian cities and the U.S.
The service is available from October, according to service provider Connexion By Boeing.
Connexion By Boeing, a unit of The Boeing Co., provides suitably equipped aircraft with a satellite-linked Internet connection of about 5M bit/sec downstream from the Internet to the aircraft, and 1M bit/sec upstream from the aircraft to the Internet. The service can be offered throughout the aircraft via wired LAN connections or wireless LAN, depending on the aircraft’s configuration. Users pay about $30 for access throughout the flight or about $10 for 30 minutes and 25 cents for each additional minute.
Passengers can find the service on Asiana flights OZ101/102 between Seoul and Tokyo on Mondays; OZ271/272 between Seoul and Seattle on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; OZ365/366 between Seoul and Shanghai on Fridays and OZ731 between Seattle and Ho Chi Minh City on Thursdays and Sundays and OZ732 between Ho Chi Minh City and Seoul on Mondays and Fridays.
The launch of the service on Asiana brings to 8 the number of airlines that offer Boeing’s in-flight Internet access: Japan’s All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines System; Taiwan’s China Airlines; Korean Air; Germany’s Lufthansa; Singapore Airlines and SAS’s Scandinavian Airline System.
The service will start later this month on Israel’s El Al and is under preparation for launch on Austrian Airlines and the United Arab Emirates’ Etihad Airways, said Connexion By Boeing.
