Cisco last week announced a switch module for HP’s BladeSystem chassis that can let HP blade servers connect and interoperate better with a Cisco-based data center network. The Cisco Gigabit Ethernet Switch Module fits into HP’s BladeSystem p-Class chassis and acts as a gateway for traffic that moves in and out of the BladeSystem. The vendors say the switch module can improve blade server performance by opening up wider network pipes to an HP blade chassis, and can improve management of data center and network gear. The Cisco device will be sold through HP. It is a Layer 2/3 switch with 24 ports of 10/100/1000M bit/sec Ethernet, and it runs Cisco’s Layer 2/3 IOS switch software image. Pricing for the Gigabit Ethernet Switch Module is not set, but the device is expected to ship later this month.
Infoblox last week rolled out a version of its RADIUS appliance which is used for remote user authentication, authorization and accounting. RADIUSone Version 1.2 now includes features for rolling out large-scale wireless LANs such as Multi-Store, which provides one interface for multiple data stores and support for redundant data stores; and Multi-Auth, which handles multiple authentication types in one realm and works with many data stores across realms. RADIUSone Version 1.2 retails for $12,000.
E-mail security company CipherTrust last week updated its TrustedSource e-mail reputation system to make it easier to block spam e-mail by weeding out traffic from zombie machines, the company says. TrustedSource Version 3.0 integrates data from enterprise e-mail traffic processed by more than 1,600 IronMail e-mail gateways used by CipherTrust customers. The new data lets TrustedSource create a more accurate e-mail reputation for inbound e-mail. TrustedSource is available as a free update for CipherTrust customers who have purchased maintenance and support.
