* Introducing co-author Jim Metzler
Many of you have been with us right from the beginning seven years ago when Joanie and Steve began writing the twice-weekly frame relay and now WAN newsletter. And even though we shared the writing assignments, we always collaborated and used the first person plural “we” in the newsletter. But today’s newsletter is just from Steve, and it has two purposes.
Many of you have been with us right from the beginning seven years ago when Joanie and Steve began writing the twice-weekly frame relay and now WAN newsletter. And even though we shared the writing assignments, we always collaborated and used the first person plural “we” in the newsletter. But today’s newsletter is just from Steve, and it has two purposes.
First and foremost, I want to thank Joanie for tirelessly making sure that the newsletters that I happened to write made sense. One of the many advantages of having a co-author is that you can make sure that the information is both relevant and reflects a common understanding. Joanie was also the traffic cop whenever I got too excited about a new bit of techno-trivia and made sure that the topic was relevant to you, the reader.
A few months ago, we started discussing the future of this newsletter. In particular, Joanie needed additional time for other projects, and I was not ready to take on sole authorship of the newsletter. So we decided to look for a new co-author in order to accomplish this.
Rest assured that you’ll continue to hear from Joanie. She still authors the twice-weekly Network World Wireless in the Enterprise newsletter, which covers the gamut of air-related networking issues of importance to enterprise IT departments. Additionally, she and I are still partnering on special projects, and you’ll be continuing to see her work at Webtorials.
Moving forward, I’d like to introduce my new co-author, Jim Metzler. Many of you may already know Jim via his extensive seminar work with Network World, plus his frequent publications both at Webtorials and in the trade press. In fact, we started working together a few years ago when we were the analyst speakers at a series of seminar tours by AT&T.
Jim and I quickly found that even though we had different approaches to problems, our conclusions were usually almost identical. Consequently, it seemed natural that Jim should step in and become the new co-author.
With that, be rest assured that the tradition of hearing from the co-authors as “we” will resume in the next newsletter.
