Juniper hiring hints at buyout plans
Juniper Networks recently hired an ex-venture capitalist to go out and acquire a wireless LAN company and possibly others. But Juniper at first wouldn’t even confirm that he worked there – and now it won’t comment on “his specific role in the company” and has apparently instructed him not to speak to the press. Such secrecy!

Qwest makes revised bid for MCI
Qwest, in its effort to lure MCI away from rival Verizon, Thursday made a new bid for MCI that guarantees the price it will pay to MCI stockholders.

IBMer named head of IETF
The IETF, the Internet’s premier standards-setting body, has selected IBM researcher Brian Carpenter as its new chair. The appointment was announced Thursday and will be made official March 9 at the all-volunteer group’s meeting in Minneapolis.
