* See who will be at the annual Netpro Directory Experts Conference - Active Directory
Next week I’ll be in Vancouver, British Columbia, for Netpro’s annual Directory Experts Conference – Active Directory (DEC-AD). This is always an eye-opening event that gets “closer to the bone” of Active Directory than most Microsoft-sponsored gatherings. I say “most” because Microsoft is one of the sponsors of DEC, along with Centrify (see link below for more about Centrify). Some of Redmond’s best and brightest will be there to speak, including:
* Stuart Kwan, Microsoft director of Program Management for the Identity and Access Team in Windows Server.
* Sanjay Tandon, Microsoft program manager of IT Corporate Security.
* Paul Rich, Microsoft senior systems engineer.
Former Microsoftie (now with Vintela) Jackson Shaw has also promised to put in an appearance and keep his former co-workers “in line.”
Also returning to the speakers platform will be an HP contingent:
* Guido Grillenmeier, senior consultant, Microsoft Services, HP Consulting.
* Wook Lee, HP network infrastructure engineer.
* Jesse Sutela, HP network infrastructure engineer.
Among the other speakers is the always-entertaining, engaging and informative NetPro CTO Gil Kirkpatrick.
If you are going to this conference, make sure – without fail – that you attend Lee’s session (8 a.m. Tuesday, “Reflections While Tending the AD Orchard”). Do not oversleep! Two years ago he brought down the house with his haiku and senryuu (see https://www.nwfusion.com/newsletters/dir/2003/0922id2.html), and last year it was “Trees and Forests, Roots and Leaves: The Adventures of an Active Directory Forest Ranger,” complete with its own form of doggerel. Lee has a way of making what could be the world’s dullest seminar seem like another segment on the David Letterman show. Since this year’s theme is “Securing Your Enterprise Infrastructure with Microsoft Identity Management Technologies,” there’s definitely a large yawn factor while still being important to the care and feeding of your network.
