F-Secure Monday reported that it is studying a new virus that replicates via multimedia messaging services (MMS) on Symbian Series 60 cell phones.
MMS lets users send messages that contain pictures or video or audio clips. The virus, dubbed CommonWarrior.A, appears to be the first to use MMS as a vector.
The virus apparently originated in Russia. Via MMS or Bluetooth, the virus drops several files onto the target, and includes a brief message in Russian that roughly translates, according to F-Secure, as “No to braindeads.”
More details, though still sketchy, can be found at the F-Secure Web site. The company has issued a software update that can detect CommonWarrior.A.
