San Jose gives convergence contract to Nortel
The City of San Jose got a little too cozy with hometown team Cisco, according to auditors – so the city went back to the RFP drawing board to give other companies a fair shake. The result is that the city synonymous with Cisco is spending $5.3 million for a voice/data network based on equipment not made by Cisco.

SEC accuses former Qwest head of fraud
After a series of legal actions against former executives of Qwest for alleged financial fraud, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission finally worked its way to the top of the executive ladder. It charged former Qwest CEO and Co-Chairman Joseph Nacchio on Tuesday with fraud and other securities-law violations.

Bush names Martin new FCC chairman
President George W. Bush Wednesday announced he will appoint former advisor Kevin Martin to be the new chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, which regulates the telecommunications and broadcast industries.
