* SMC’s newest stand-alone and stackable
SMC Networks in the last couple weeks has continued to roll out LAN switches, including a stand-alone 48-port 10/100M bit/sec switch and a stackable 24-port 10/100M bit/sec switch.
The new standalone switch is the TigerSwitch 10/100 Standalone 48-port 10/100 +2 10/100/1000Base-T +2 1000Base-T/SFP Combo Ports, also known as the SMC6752AL2.
The 48 ports of Fast Ethernet are fixed. There are two copper Gigabit Ethernet ports, and the 1000Base-T/SFP combo ports can be used for either copper cables or fiber-optic lines. For the fiber options, those ports can be upgraded with transceivers.
SMC says the managed switch has a non-blocking switch architecture. Security features include access control lists, 802.1x support, and SSH support. QoS controls include traffic prioritization and rate limiting.
The switch is shipping now for $900, and a 26-port version – with 24 ports of 10/100M bit/sec Ethernet and two Gigabit Ethernet copper/fiber combo ports – is expected next month.
The new stackable switch is the TigerStack IV 24-port 10/100 Stackable Managed Switch, or SMC6224M.
In addition to the 24 Fast Ethernet ports, this workgroup switch has two copper Gigabit Ethernet ports that also serve as the connections for stacking the switch with others. Up to eight of these can be stacked. The switch has many of the same security and management features that the standalone switch has.
The switch is shipping now for $400.
