Relax, this isn’t another newsletter about the latest Microsoft anti-Linux campaign.
For Linux users looking for a nice tool for burning data to CDs and DVDs for storage, or for creating music CDs or movie DVDs on a Linux box, a new tool called NeroLinux might be worth a look.
NeroLinux is billed by its developers as a tool for “all essential optical burning tasks.” The software allows users to create a wide variety of media, such as data CDs and DVDs for storage, bootable disks for running a Linux (maybe a PC, server or router image) from a CD ROM drive, as well as double-layer DVD disks for real data-cram jobs – up to 8.5G bytes on a disk, as opposed to the standard 4.7G bytes on a single-layer DVD disk.
NeroLinux is also useful for audiophiles, the software makers say, as the tool can be used to create audio CDs from song files or music CD copies, even with support for adding CD text to disk.
The software is supported on several 32-bit Intel-based Linux platforms including Red Hat Versions 7.3 to 9.0, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0. Also supported are Fedora Core versions 1 through 3,SuSE 8.0 through 9.2, and Debian 3 and 3.1.
NeroLinux is available now for free to registered users of the Nero 6.0 burning software for Windows, which costs $90.
