Content management systems abound and choosing which to use gets harder and harder. Do you go for the enormous, all-singing, all-dancing solution that costs serious money and requires man weeks of integration or low cost but limited?
This issue we have a low cost, Web-based CMS solution for you that is also simple, suitable for less experienced users and administrators and written entirely in Active Server Pages (ASP). The product is called aeNovo and it is developed by FutureStore Technologies.
Installing aeNovo is simple and the instructions are very detailed. Once installed the system allows you to add, delete and edit pages as well as upload and manage images and other files.
The system comes with a number of easily edited templates or you can create your own look and feel. Editing can be done in wysiwyg format or in HTML and adding in scripting (for example, JavaScript) or any other content (Flash content or Java applets) is very easy. AeNovo also uses style sheets and includes a style editor, which makes site content formatting much more flexible.
You can define “sub-editors” whose rights are restricted by passwords to particular subtrees of the content and who cannot change overall formatting. This makes the system particularly useful in intranet environments as naïve users can safely manage their own content.
As aeNovo is written completely in ASP, it requires no additional DLLs or other components so it will run on either Microsoft ISS or any ASP emulation such as the Sun Java System Active Server Pages (what was Chilisoft ASP published by Chilisoft, which was acquired by Cobalt Networks which, in turn, was acquired by Sun). It is also browser-agnostic.
This is a nice system for smaller sites and the price is definitely right: Just $29.
