* Corrent rolls out five VPN appliances
Corrent is coming out with five VPN appliances that run other vendors’ software.
Two of the devices support Microsoft’s Internet and Security Acceleration Server 2004, which includes a firewall and VPN gateway. Called the SR125 and SR225, the appliances support firewall speeds of 400M bit/sec and 2G bit/sec, respectively.
These may be optimistic speeds because they were based on Corrent testing using large packets, which results in higher throughputs than if mixed or small packet were used.
The SR225 comes with hardware to accelerate VPN performance, but Corrent did not supply speeds. The devices also support Web caching to make Internet response times seem faster.
SR125 costs $5,900 and SR225 costs $8,900.
Three other devices support Check Point Software’s SSL VPN software called Connectra. Called SR110, SR210 and SR310, the appliances are designed for progressively larger organizations. Each of them supports the range of Connectra SSL VPN features including checks of the remote machine to determine whether they meet corporate security polices. If not, they are referred to sites where they can download software to come into compliance.
They also support a safe-browser mode in which data accessed on remote machines during connections is stored encrypted and deleted when the session is over.
Connectra software comes installed on the appliances.
The SR110 costs $3,700 for up to 250 users and is available now. Pricing for the other two appliances, which ship by mid-year, has not been set. Licenses for Connectra software cost extra.
