Sepaton announced last week an enhanced version of its virtual tape library appliance, which lets companies back up data to disk as if it were tape. The Sepaton S2100-ES2 includes the ability to back up data at up to 4.3T byte/hour and to scale from 3T bytes to more than 1P byte of storage. Sepaton’s previous appliance topped out at 200T bytes. The S2100-ES2 also allows data to be moved from one virtual library to another and for data to be compressed according to rules the IT administrator sets. The S2100-ES2 now emulates four times as many tape libraries – previously it emulated only 16 libraries from StorageTek, Quantum, ADIC and IBM, among others. The Sepaton S2100-ES2 starts at less than $60,000.
NSI Software, a maker of high availability and data-replication software, has named Dean Goodermote as CEO. He replaces Don Beeler, who is stepping down after serving as CEO since the privately held company’s launch in 1991. Goodermote had been CEO of Clinsoft and Process Software, and had been chairman and president of MRO Software.
Maxxan last week unveiled an intelligent storage-area network switch that lets midrange IT organizations implement disaster recovery, virtualization, disk-based backup and network-attached storage in a single box. The MXV250 is a 16- to 64-port Fibre Channel switch with FalconStor’s IPStor software and Maxxan’s SANCruiser management software installed. The IPStor software allows remote replication, virtualization, synchronous and asynchronous mirroring, snapshot, point-in-time copy and NAS capability. The MXV250 is expected to be available in June starting at $59,000 for a 32-port switch with virtualization capability.
Applied Voice & Speech Technologies recently released CallXpress Speech Server based on a new version of its speech module, Seneca. 4.5. CallXpress with the Seneca module provides speech-enabled message access, call completion and personal assistant applications. The new server also works with the calendar access features of Microsoft Exchange, and includes Missed Call Notification and Caller ID information features. Pricing starts at $15,000 for 200 seats.
