IBM, Nortel to collaborate on telecom products
IBM and Nortel have worked together over the last couple of years, as Nortel provided the communications portion for IBM’s BladeCenter servers. Now things are getting a little more serious as the two establish a joint development center to create carrier-grade servers.

IEEE group scraps 802.11n proposal
The IEEE 802.11n task group turned back a surprise move to adjourn this week’s meeting, and then went on to hand a major setback to a vendor group backing one approach to super-high-bandwidth wireless LANs.

FCC requires VoIP providers to offer E911
VoIP carriers that connect to the U.S. public telephone network will be required this year to provide their customers with enhanced 911 emergency calling service, the FCC ruled Thursday.
