Microsoft continues to try to make its volume licensing and maintenance programs more palatable to customers. Ever since Licensing 6.0 and Software Assurance were introduced two years ago, customers have been resistant – but Microsoft has made quite a few concessions since the introduction, and many enterprises have come around.

Former CA chief Sanjay Kumar indicted on fraud charges
Former Computer Associates CEO Sanjay Kumar and CA’s former head of worldwide sales, Stephen Richards, have been indicted on charges of securities fraud conspiracy and obstruction of justice, federal prosecutors announced Wednesday afternoon.

Cisco to hire 1,000 engineers, salespeople this year
Cisco said it will add up to 1,000 employees, primarily in its engineering and sales groups, over the next fiscal year, which ends July 31, 2005.

Symantec this week released its semi-annual Internet Security Threat Report that covers the first half of 2004, and the numbers are not good. Bot networks are up from 2,000 at the beginning of the year to 30,000 as of the end of June, and there are some 10,000 malicious programs that could infect a Windows PC.
