* Robert Half Technology's 2005 Salary Guide
Wonder what you should be paying your IT staff next year? Robert Half Technology last week released its 2005 Salary Guide, which shows that IT starting salaries overall are projected to increase .5% overall. However, larger increases are expected for positions in high demand, such as security and quality assurance.
According to the research, systems auditors will enjoy the biggest starting salary increases in 2005. Base compensation will jump 5.1% to boost the salary range to between $63,250 and $81,750 per year. “Companies require systems auditors to assess and document the capabilities of existing systems in advance of hardware and software upgrades,” says Katherine Spencer Lee, executive director of Robert Half Technology. She notes that regulatory requirements such as Sarbanes-Oxley and Gramm-Leach-Bliley are also driving demand.
The IT staffing firm forecasts base compensation for security administrators to rise 2.3%. Starting salaries will range from $63,750 to $90,500.
Here are some other highlights of the report, which is based on analysis of thousands of job orders handled by Robert Half Technology’s U.S. offices:
* Starting salaries for quality assurance/testing managers will increase 2.2% over 2004, with average starting salaries running between $64,750 and $86,750 annually.
* Business systems analysts will earn base compensation of $56,000 to $80,500 per year, a gain of 1.9%.
* Starting salaries for Internet/intranet administrators will drop 1.2%, bringing pay to the range of $48,250 to $70,750 per year.
*Base compensation for desktop support analysts is expected to decline 3.8%, dropping salaries to the $44,500 to $63,250 range.
