* ITAA calls for Bush administration to work with Congress in pursuit of some specific tech-related policy goals
The Information Technology Association of America last week offered President George W. Bush a short list of policy goals for his second term in office. The ITAA is a trade association dedicated to advancing the growth of the IT industry.
“ITAA is hopeful the President will continue his pursuit of policies rooted in free trade, economic growth and education reform that will ensure America retains its place as a leader and innovator in the global information economy,” ITAA President Harris Miller says.
Miller’s group called for the Bush administration to work with Congress in pursuit of these technology-related policy goals:
* Assure access for American companies to global markets and talent.
* Prevent barriers to entry into domestic U.S. markets.
* Increase the use of IT to improve national security and homeland security.
* Deploy technology to reduce the cost of healthcare delivery and improve quality of care.
* Guarantee a strong American workforce by emphasizing math and science education and increasing support for community colleges and other sources of professional education and training.
* Maintain the U.S.’s role as a leading innovator in the global information economy by facilitating American research and development
* Support certainty in the boardroom by continuing to reform the corporate tax code.
* Continue procurement reform to ensure federal agencies can obtain the best value for tax dollars by working with the private sector.
* Promote the advancement of tech-savvy government officials into higher levels of decision making, including the addition of an Assistant Secretary for Information Security at the Department of Homeland Security.
