Nippon Telegraph and Telephone, the holding company of the NTT Group that includes NTT DoCoMo, has joined the Open Source Development Labs consortium.Established to promote the use of the Linux operating system, the consortium Tuesday announced that NTT has joined and will participate in the lab’s Data Center Linux and Carrier Grade Linux working grade initiatives.NTT’s research and development arm, NTT Research Laboratories, will work on developing Linux for use in enterprise computing, OSDL said. The company aims to establish Linux as the computing platform for telecom carrier IT systems, according to OSDL.OSDL employs Linus Torvalds, the Finnish creator of the Linux operating system. Neither NTT nor OSDL was immediately available for comment.
