MCI will reduce its workforce by 3% in 2004. The carrier plans to eliminate 1,700 jobs in an effort to cut costs. MCI has let more than 22,000 employees go since it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July 2002. The interexchange carrier will likely not see revenue growth until months after it emerges from bankruptcy. http://www.nwfusion.com/edge/news/2004/0116mci.html

CoSine Communications said it will begin offering a multicast feature in its IPSX 3500 and 9500 IP Service Switches for carriers and service providers. Service providers that adopt the new CoSine update will be able to offer virtualized multicast, PIM Sparse Mode multicast and hardware-accelerated multicast forwarding as features for enterprise customers that need to broadcast video to geographically distributed sites simultaneously. For enterprise customers, this means being able to use multicast across their WAN without having to change their current network configuration.
