Cisco to acquire IDS vendor Riverhead Networks for $39 million

Cisco plans to purchase privately held Riverhead Networks, a maker of security technology that protects against distributed denial-of-service attacks, in an all-cash deal worth approximately $39 million.

Microsoft: $610 million EU fine too big

The European Commission may fine Microsoft $610 for abusing its monopoly in computer operating systems. Microsoft argues that since there isn’t a clear legal standard under EU law the size of the fine is unwarranted.

Witty worm exploits hole in BlackIce security product

A new worm that exploited a hole in some of Internet Security Systems’ intrusion protection products seems to be dying down after affecting thousands of IP addresses since Saturday.
