* The Network World Test Pilot program is alive and well
Just when you thought the Network World Test Pilot program had crashed and burned, here’s a product review from Biju Oommen, one of our top Test Pilot reviewers.
Biju says that he enjoys his Expand 2750 WAN accelerator, and here are some of the reasons why:
1. The Expand’s appliance OS CLI is very much like Cisco IOS CLI. So if you are familiar with Cisco CLI, then configuration is a breeze. You just need a few steps, very few commands to get going. Depending on the WAN port you just need to specify the bandwidth, clock rate, turn acceleration on or off and confirm auto detect all.
2. The bypass resilience feature allows for failsafe operation and a guarantee that the link will never be dropped as a result of Accelerator failure.
3. It plugs in very nicely on the WAN side of the router especially on multi-protocol WAN environments, e.g.IP,IPX,SNA, etc.
4. Configuration and management options via Web UI, CLI, Java Management Console, SNMP, TFTP, syslog event logging, RADIUS authentication are very useful.
5. The network appliance is truly protocol- and topology-independent.
6. Drop recovery code (DRC) is very useful when packets are dropped. DRC enables synchronized Accelerators to attempt recovery of dropped data packets, without the need for the Accelerators to resynchronize or for the cache to be reset.
7. AppView Graphical Reporting a WebUI tool with multiple reporting export and print functions.
8. The Quick Install guide is very well written and handy.
Of course, no product is perfect. Biju says he would like to see the price lower and the management software become truly plug-and-play. But overall he recommends the product and says it’s a true money saver.
