* The Nortel Networks Certified Design Expert - NNCDE

Nortel recently announced the first of its Design Expert Certifications for IP telephony pros specializing in the IP Convergence Meridian 1 IP Enabled 25.40.

The Nortel Networks Certified Design Expert (NNCDE) validates a candidate’s ability to install, maintain, configure and perform day-to-day operational activities for Nortel products. Pros who are certified at this level can assess a network for voice-over-IP readiness and cost-effectively deliver a converged voice and data platform. The certification is targeted at entry to mid-level individuals with titles such as support technician, technician assistance associate, customer service technician and support engineer.

To earn this certification, candidates must meet the prerequisite of either holding Nortel Networks Certified Design Specialist (NNCDS) certification in Meridian IP Enabled 25.40, or having passed the Meridian 1 Database Administration Expert exam (920-403), which was retired in December.

Aspiring NNCDEs must also pass these two exams:

* IP Convergence (920-802), covering advanced packet telephony design, WAN infrastructure, WAN traffic convergence, packet telephony design, network assessment, internetworking, IP clients and remote management.

* Meridian 1 IP Enabled 25.40 (920-455), covering system design, network design and network management.

Two other NNCDE-level certifications are on deck to support other products from the vendor. Alteon Security is scheduled for release later this month, while IP Convergence Succession CSE 1000 2.0 will be available in September.
