* Low-cost DSL options from Verizon and Qwest
Earlier this week we talked about how BellSouth and SBC are offering new DSL customers incentives to sign up for their lower-cost broadband services. But they are not alone. Verizon and Qwest are offering some deals of their own.
Verizon was the first local exchange carrier (LEC) to reduce its DSL service prices. In May the service provider lowered its Verizon Online DSL service, which supports transmission speeds of 128K bit/sec upstream and 1.5M bit/sec downstream, from $50 per month to $35 per month:

In addition to its lower rates Verizon is offering new customers a few cost-saving incentives as well. Customers that sign up now will get their first month of service free. The second and third months of service will cost $30 each. The fourth month and all months thereafter will cost the standard rate of $35 per month.
Verizon does not charge additional fees for a DSL modem or for its self-installation kit.
Qwest is offering customers that sign up for its MSN Broadband Powered by Qwest service a deal if they sign up by the end of this week.
The carrier is waiving the $100 activation fee and another $100 DSL modem fee.
This version of Qwest’s DSL service, coupled with MSN’s Internet access, is available in two flavors. Customers can choose between transmission speeds of 256K bit/sec upstream and downstream for $40 per month or transmission speeds of 256K bit/sec upstream and 640K bit/sec downstream for $50 per month.
