ISP Cogent Communications recently picked up the Internet business of Columbus, Ohio-based access and colocation provider Fiber Network Solutions for an undisclosed amount of stock and assumption of debt.FNSI’s approximately 400-strong customer base are located in Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania. All FNSI customers will be transferred onto Cogent’s national backbone.Cogent sels Internet access to small and mid-sized businesses in 30 metro markets across the U.S.Since Cogent’s inception in 2000, the company has completed six acquisitions, including the purchase of ISP PSINet last year.
