NEC BNS, a systems integrator, is now reselling Internap’s business services to its customers. Internap offers collocation, remote access and dedicated access to the Internet. The two companies will also develop and market new services, including IP VPN and voice over IP that will run over Internap’s network.

In addition to training NEC BNS’ sales team, the Internap will also work with NEC BNS to target Fortune 1000 business users. NEC BNS is part of Internap’s Alliance Partner program.

The service provider’s approach to providing IP services differs from many ISPs in that it supports high-bandwidth, dedicated connections at its points-of-presence from up to 10 different ISPs.

Internap calls its POPs, Private Network Access Points (P-NAP). The service provider has 33 P-NAPs in the U.S. and two overseas. The company is expanding its network in North America by adding seven additional P-NAPs.

The service provider has developed an intelligent routing technology that automatically sends customer traffic over the connections that are least congested. This allows Internap to offer business users a 100% network availability guarantee, even over other ISP’s network connections.

Internap does not exchange traffic at the public peering points on the Internet, such as MAE East or MAE West, which are often congested.

Internap has 1,270 mid sized and Fortune 500 business customers across the U.S., Europe and Japan. The service provider says that NASDAQ, ADP and McAfee are among its largest customers. NEC BNS targets enterprises of similar size.
