* Two readers share their employment success stories

Given the tough job market, it’s always nice to hear some good news. I recently heard from two readers and wanted to pass along their comments regarding employment success as a reminder of the positive events that are still happening.

An IT manager named Val found a job change within her company reenergized her career. When the large bank she works for underwent yet another merger and reorganization, the field support engineer landed a job as team leader for a four-state region.

Funny thing is, there isn’t an automatic pay increase even though there is a significant increase in responsibility for me,” she writes. She doesn’t mind because she believes an increase will come down the road after she proves herself worthy of the position.”

As she prepared for the new position, Val did a lot of brainstorming on how she can be a leader and has been motivated to reorganize her office and surroundings. “Bottom line, I never saw this coming, and I never would have guessed I would be so energized and motivated by taking on a position like this. Maybe it’s just what I needed at this point in my career,” she writes. I hope she continues to enjoy the new position.

The best e-mail I got was from a reader who had previously written me to lament the lousy employment outlook. He couldn’t find any IT work and said it was so bad that several people he knew left the IT field. Well, Richard recently landed a job as an IS security manager for a hospital. His brother is still looking and Richard advises him, “I’m telling him that if I can find a decent job, to not give up all hope. At least not yet.”
