The judge mulling over a remedy to impose on Microsoft in its long-running antitrust case will release her opinion Friday, nearly one year after Microsoft agreed to a proposed settlement.

U.S. District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly will release the opinion at about 4:30 p.m. EST, the court said in a statement released Thursday. The full text of the opinion will be available online here.

Kollar-Kotelly is expected to decide whether a proposed settlement deal between Microsoft, the U.S. Department of Justice and nine states that are plaintiffs in the case, goes far enough as a penalty for Microsoft’s conviction of operating an illegal monopoly in the market for desktop operating systems. She could also issue an opinion that favors additional sanctions being sought by nine other states that didn’t sign on to the proposed agreement.
